According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Monday, October 19, 2026, Manchester United have appointed an experienced communications manager amid growing frustration among supporters over the men’s team’s poor performances under head coach Michael Carrick.
Carrick earned the permanent position after an impressive interim spell last season, guiding United to third place in the Premier League and securing Champions League qualification.
However, the team have struggled to maintain that form this season, winning just two of their first 10 competitive matches. Those victories came against newly promoted Ipswich Town and Champions League newcomers Sabah FK.
United have continued to struggle with defensive mistakes, missed chances and inconsistent performances. They conceded a late equaliser against Tottenham before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Europe.
Their subsequent 1-1 draw against Leeds United extended their winless run to six matches, increasing pressure on Carrick and prompting speculation about possible replacements.
Antonio Conte is among the experienced managers linked with the Old Trafford job. The Italian has won league titles with Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli, while reports suggest his representatives have expressed interest in the Manchester United position.
Meanwhile, United have officially appointed Emily Brammeier as their new communications manager for the women's team. Brammeier spent the past decade working in professional cycling before taking up the new role.
Announcing her appointment on LinkedIn, she described it as an exciting new chapter in her career. She also expressed her enthusiasm for leading communications for Manchester United Women and supporting the growth of women's football.
Her responsibilities will include developing communication strategies, attracting new audiences and promoting stories about the club's players. She also thanked her new colleagues for welcoming her during her first week.
Brammeier's appointment is focused on the women's team and has no direct connection to the situation surrounding the men's manager. Carrick remains in charge of the first team as pressure continues to grow over United's disappointing start to the season.
