Real Madrid Demand €80m From Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool And Three Other Premier League Clubs

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Real Madrid want Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to contribute towards the costs of the abandoned European Super League project.

The Spanish giants believe the six Premier League clubs should pay their share of the initial expenses incurred after agreeing to participate in the controversial breakaway competition in April 2021.

According to The Athletic, the disputed amount could reach €80 million, with Real Madrid seeking financial contributions from the English clubs despite their withdrawal from the project just days after its announcement.

Real Madrid, alongside Barcelona and Juventus, have reportedly borne the promotional costs associated with the Super League plans since the English clubs abandoned the initiative.

The proposed competition sparked widespread opposition from supporters, football authorities and political leaders across Europe, eventually forcing several founding clubs to withdraw.

Despite the effective collapse of the project, Real Madrid are reportedly unwilling to write off the financial commitments associated with its development.

The dispute centres on a shareholders' agreement signed by the participating clubs for the European Super League Company, a holding company based in Spain.

Whether Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham remain financially responsible will depend on how the agreement is interpreted, particularly its wording concerning the clubs' commitment to "jointly own and manage" the project.

However, leaked documents reportedly contain no explicit provision requiring the clubs to share the costs, potentially complicating Real Madrid's efforts to recover the money.

The absence of clear contractual language could prolong the dispute, with legal proceedings emerging as a possible option if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

The latest development comes as Real Madrid continue to reshape their business operations following the collapse of the Super League initiative.

The club are preparing to appoint Bernd Reichart, the former chief executive of A22, the company that spearheaded the breakaway competition and later explored plans for the Unify League.
