According to a report by Metro on Sunday, November 8, 2026, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has warned Arsenal's Premier League title rivals that Mikel Arteta's side could become even more difficult to defeat as the season progresses, despite not consistently delivering their best performances.
Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday after recording a narrow 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Emirates Stadium.
Martin Odegaard scored the only goal of the encounter in the 72nd minute, securing all three points for the Gunners and extending their lead at the top of the standings to six points.
The victory took Arsenal's points tally to 27 from their opening 10 league matches. They have recorded nine wins and suffered only one defeat so far this season.
Meanwhile, Manchester City lost further ground in the title race following an unexpected defeat to Nottingham Forest, marking their third successive loss in the Premier League.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy warned Arsenal's competitors about the growing threat posed by Arteta's team. He explained that their ability to secure victories even when they are not performing at their highest level makes them particularly dangerous.
The former England international noted that Arsenal have collected 27 points from a possible 30 despite failing to dominate several matches this season.
Murphy also referred to their impressive display against Chelsea, describing it as an example of the quality the north London club can demonstrate when everything works according to plan.
He further suggested that Arsenal still have significant room for improvement, warning that their performances could become even more impressive as the campaign continues.
Murphy believes Arteta's squad are in a strong position to retain their Premier League title, considering their current form and consistency.
Former England women's international Steph Houghton also praised Arsenal's progress, highlighting the strength, quality and depth within the team's squad.
Houghton explained that Arteta's lengthy spell in charge has helped establish stability at the club, enabling players to understand their individual responsibilities and tactical duties.
She also praised Arsenal's summer transfer business, pointing out that having quality options on the bench, including Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino, provides the team with an important advantage.
According to her, the availability of such players gives Arteta more tactical flexibility and allows him to make effective changes during difficult matches.
Arsenal will now prepare for a challenging series of fixtures, starting with an away encounter against Newcastle United at St James' Park next weekend.
The Gunners will then travel to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before returning to domestic action for a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta's men will be determined to maintain their impressive performances, collect maximum points from the upcoming matches and further strengthen their position in the Premier League title race.
