According to a report by Madrid Universal on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Turkey international Arda Guler has improved his attacking performance this season after playing in different positions, including right-winger and a deeper midfield role.
Cadena SER reports that Guler averages 5.26 passes leading to shots per match, the highest figure among players across Europe.
His set piece numbers have also improved significantly since José Mourinho took charge of Real Madrid. Under former manager Xabi Alonso, Guler created an average of 0.83 chances from set pieces per game. That figure has risen to 2.54 under Mourinho, more than three times his previous average.
The 21year old has also become more effective at dribbling past opponents. His average number of completed dribbles per match has increased from 1.05 under Alonso to 1.75 under Mourinho.
These figures show that Guler offers more than accurate passing. He is becoming more confident carrying the ball forward and creating dangerous opportunities for his teammates, making him an important part of Madrid's attack.
His improved creativity could prove valuable against teams that defend deep and leave little space in the final third. His delivery from corners and free kicks could also help Madrid find a breakthrough in difficult matches.
Players such as Dean Huijsen, Ibrahima Konate, Antonio Rudiger and Carlos Espi could benefit from his set-piece deliveries, particularly because of their ability in the air.
With the Clasico against Barcelona approaching, Guler's ability to control possession and create chances could be important for Madrid. Barcelona's attacking threat will require the home side to remain composed while making the most of their opportunities.
Madrid need midfielders who can maintain possession and create chances in the final third. Guler's recent performances suggest he is growing into that role under Mourinho, although the upcoming Clasico will provide another major test of his progress.
