According to a report by the London Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is expected to make several changes to his starting lineup when the Blues welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
Chelsea will be eager to return to winning ways after suffering consecutive defeats, including their Carabao Cup elimination against Liverpool on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Anfield. However, Alonso has received an important boost with attacking midfielder Cole Palmer expected to return after missing the midweek encounter due to the suspension he received against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite the positive news, Chelsea are dealing with several injury concerns. Defender Maxence Lacroix was forced off before half-time against Liverpool with a suspected hamstring problem and is awaiting further medical examinations. Malo Gusto and Moises Caicedo also experienced physical discomfort during the match and will undergo late fitness assessments to determine their availability.
These concerns add to Chelsea's existing injury problems. Reece James is expected to remain unavailable until the new year following knee surgery, while Joao Pedro faces several weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Jamie Gittens is also recovering from an ankle problem sustained while on international duty.
Meanwhile, there is encouraging news regarding goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who could return sooner than initially expected after suffering a broken jaw. Jorrel Hato and Pep Chavarria are also available for selection after missing the Liverpool encounter.
