MReal Madrid have reportedly given Vinícius Júnior one month to improve his performances or risk losing his regular starting position, with growing concerns about his form and physical condition. According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Spanish club are examining the reasons behind the Brazilian forward’s disappointing start to the season.
The concerns have emerged despite Vinícius signing a lucrative contract extension during the summer. The 26-year-old has managed just one goal this season, while his overall contribution to José Mourinho’s team has attracted increasing scrutiny.
Madrid’s recent 3-2 Champions League victory over AEK Athens highlighted some of his difficulties. Vinícius was substituted in the 81st minute, shortly before his teammates scored the decisive goal. His performance was particularly concerning because he failed to complete a single attempted dribble during his time on the pitch.
Reports from El Debate indicate that Madrid are investigating the situation from several perspectives. Club officials are reportedly considering whether mental, physical or personal circumstances could be affecting the winger’s performances. They are also interested in determining whether changes in his physical condition have contributed to a decline in his pace and explosiveness.
An open conversation between the player and the club is considered important in understanding the problems and identifying possible solutions. Mourinho is reportedly determined to help Vinícius recover his confidence and attacking influence, and the manager has publicly defended the Brazilian despite his struggles.
However, the support may not continue indefinitely without an improvement in performances. Vinícius is approaching a crucial period as Madrid prepare for important December fixtures against Arsenal and Athletic Bilbao. His displays in the coming weeks could influence Mourinho’s decision about whether he should retain his place in the starting line-up.
His recent statistics have added to the concerns. Across his last nine appearances in all competitions, the forward has recorded only one goal and one assist. Mourinho has continued selecting him, apparently hoping that regular involvement will help restore his confidence and attacking effectiveness.
Nevertheless, competition for places could become stronger following the reported arrival of Yan Diomande for €125 million. The new signing is more comfortable operating on the left wing, Vinícius’s preferred position, potentially creating another challenge for the Brazilian.
There has also been a noticeable decline in Vinícius’s dribbling output. His average number of successful dribbles per match has fallen from 2.4 to 1.8, while he has not completed a full 90 minutes in the last two months.
Club insiders have reportedly stressed the importance of hard work in helping him rediscover his previous quality. One message attributed to those within Madrid was that he needed to work hard to bring back his magic, suggesting that the club expects a determined response.
His performances against Celta Vigo, PSV and Alavés will therefore attract particular attention. Mourinho is expected to assess whether the forward can demonstrate meaningful progress during those matches.
If his struggles continue, the manager could consider alternative attacking options and leave Vinícius on the bench. The Brazilian's immediate challenge is to regain consistency, confidence and effectiveness before Madrid make decisions about his role.
