EPL Table After Liverpool Won 2-1

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Liverpool staged an impressive second-half comeback to defeat Brentford 2-1 in their Premier League encounter, securing all three points after a challenging opening period.

Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak scored after the break to overturn Brentford’s lead in a match marked by injuries, a lengthy VAR review and two red cards for the hosts.

Brentford started strongly and created several opportunities to trouble Liverpool’s defence. Igor Thiago came close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute after receiving a pass from Dango Ouattara, but his effort narrowly missed the target.

Liverpool struggled to establish their rhythm, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz forced off through injuries during the first half.

The hosts eventually took the lead in the 44th minute when Thiago delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area, allowing Keane Lewis-Potter to score with a powerful close-range header past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool thought they had been awarded a penalty shortly before halftime after Ouattara fouled an opponent inside the box. However, referee John Brooks reviewed the incident with the assistance of VAR and overturned the decision.

Brentford’s problems increased during first-half stoppage time when Yegor Yarmolyuk received a straight red card following a VAR review, leaving the hosts with ten players.

Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage in the 62nd minute when Florian Wirtz set up Munoz, who produced an impressive strike from the edge of the penalty area to level the score.

The visitors completed their comeback eight minutes later. Bradley Barcola headed a cross into a dangerous area, allowing Isak to react quickly and fire the ball into the net to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

Brentford struggled to find another equaliser and suffered a further setback when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card in the 90+2nd minute, reducing the hosts to nine players.

Liverpool continued to create chances in the closing stages, with Barcola striking the crossbar. However, the visitors maintained their advantage until the final whistle to secure a hard-fought victory.
