'If I start thinking about leaving, it's the end for me' - Fabregas shuts down Como exit rumours

Cesc Fabregas has firmly dismissed speculation about his future at Como, insisting that he has never considered leaving the Italian club as he continues to establish himself as a manager in Serie A.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder has attracted increasing attention for his work at Como, whose progress has strengthened the club’s reputation as an ambitious project in Italian football. However, despite the recognition surrounding his managerial development, Fabregas remains focused on the team he is building rather than considering opportunities elsewhere.

Speaking before Como’s league encounter with Sassuolo, the 39-year-old was asked whether the club might eventually have to prepare for his departure. His response made clear that leaving has not been part of his thinking.

“I’ve never thought about leaving. If I started thinking about it, maybe that would be the end for me here, but I’ve never done it,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sport Italia.

Fabregas’ comments underline his commitment to Como’s long-term ambitions. Rather than allowing speculation about his next career move to become a distraction, the Spaniard appears determined to concentrate on improving the squad and helping the club continue its development.

Since taking charge, Fabregas has played an important role in shaping Como’s direction. His tactical approach, emphasis on technical football and work with younger players have contributed to his growing reputation as one of the promising coaches emerging in European football.

His progress has naturally attracted interest, but his latest remarks suggest that he remains satisfied with the challenge of building something sustainable at Como. For the club, his commitment offers encouragement as they seek to strengthen their position in Italy’s top division.

Ahead of the Sassuolo match, Fabregas also spoke positively about opposing manager Alberto Aquilani, praising his footballing philosophy, courage and approach to coaching. His remarks reflected the respect between the two coaches despite their competitive responsibilities.

Fabregas revealed that their relationship extends beyond the touchline. He recalled that Aquilani contacted him last summer to discuss the possibility of signing young midfielder Rispoli. According to Fabregas, he had no reservations about the potential move because he held Aquilani in high regard as a coach.

The Como manager also praised Nico Paz, highlighting the young midfielder’s mentality, maturity and ability to handle the pressures associated with professional football. Fabregas suggested that Paz possesses the personal discipline needed to maintain high standards without requiring constant encouragement from those around him.

Meanwhile, Como face several selection concerns ahead of their meeting with Sassuolo. Assane Diao and Moise Kean are expected to be unavailable, while Martin Liberali is also considered unlikely to feature. However, Liberali’s injury is not believed to be particularly serious.

Despite those fitness issues, Fabregas’ immediate priority remains preparing his team for the upcoming fixture. His comments have offered a clear indication that he intends to continue working on Como’s progress, with no immediate plans to walk away from the Italian project.
