Tottenham 'set for double injury boost' with Roberto De Zerbi set to welcome back stars

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to receive a significant double injury boost, with Xavi Simons and Savio both making encouraging progress in their respective recoveries and moving closer to returning to action under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The two attacking players have been unavailable because of separate injury problems, but recent developments suggest that their rehabilitation programmes are progressing positively. Their potential returns would provide Tottenham with additional quality and depth as the club prepares for its upcoming fixtures.

Brazilian winger Savio is reportedly the closest to making a comeback and could be available for Tottenham's Premier League encounter against Leeds United. His possible return would come as welcome news for De Zerbi, who has been without the attacking threat and creativity the winger brings to the team.

The 22-year-old has experienced a challenging beginning to his Tottenham career following his expensive £85 million transfer from Manchester City. Expectations were high when the club secured his services, but an injury setback has prevented him from enjoying a consistent run of appearances.

Savio sustained a muscular injury during a match against Manchester United, forcing him to miss Tottenham's subsequent three games. The problem occurred shortly before the squad travelled to Marbella, leaving the coaching staff concerned about his availability for the coming weeks.

De Zerbi previously confirmed that the Brazilian had suffered a muscular problem and would require time away from competitive football. The Italian manager explained that the injury had occurred shortly before the team's departure and that the club would have to wait before knowing precisely when the player could return.

"Savio, unfortunately, on Tuesday, before we left for Marbella, he felt a muscular problem, and we lost him for some weeks, unfortunately," the Tottenham manager said.

"I don't know \[how long he'll be sidelined\], but some weeks for sure."

However, more recent reports from Football London suggest that the winger has made considerable progress in his recovery. Savio was reportedly seen with his teammates inside the dressing room at Tottenham's Hotspur Way training facility, providing an encouraging indication that he is getting closer to returning to the squad.

Although his availability against Leeds has not been definitively confirmed, the possibility of having him back would give De Zerbi another valuable attacking option. His pace, dribbling ability and willingness to take on defenders could help Tottenham create more opportunities in the final third.

Meanwhile, Simons is also reportedly making positive progress as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury. The Netherlands international has been absent since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Tottenham's encounter with Wolves last season.

The former RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has consequently been unable to make his first appearance for Tottenham during the current campaign. His prolonged absence has deprived the team of an important creative presence, particularly in the attacking midfield position.

Nevertheless, a report by The Times indicates that Simons could return to training earlier than initially anticipated. The development has generated optimism within the club, especially considering the lengthy rehabilitation normally associated with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Players recovering from this type of injury generally require approximately 12 months before completing their rehabilitation. However, Simons is reportedly targeting a return around two months earlier than originally expected.

Although resuming training would not automatically mean that he is ready to participate in competitive matches, it would represent an important step towards his eventual comeback. Tottenham's medical team will likely remain cautious to ensure that the midfielder regains his fitness without risking another setback.

At just 23, Simons is regarded as an important attacking asset because of his technical ability, movement and creativity. His capacity to operate as a traditional number 10 makes him particularly suitable for De Zerbi's preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Having him available would provide Tottenham with another player capable of linking midfield and attack, creating scoring opportunities and supplying passes that can unlock opposition defences.

Savio's anticipated comeback would also strengthen the team's options on the wings, giving the manager additional flexibility when selecting his attacking formation.

With both players gradually approaching full fitness, Tottenham will be hoping their returns can improve the team's attacking depth and overall performance as the campaign continues.
