According to a report by the Evening Standard on Friday, October 30, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided an update on five players ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues will be hoping to return to winning ways after suffering a disappointing Carabao Cup elimination against Liverpool on Wednesday, following a penalty shootout defeat at Anfield.
However, Alonso has delivered encouraging news concerning Moises Caicedo and goalkeeper Emi Martinez, while also discussing the fitness situations of Maxence Lacroix, Pep Chavarria and Jorrel Hato.
Caicedo featured in Chelsea's Carabao Cup encounter against Liverpool but was substituted for Valentin Barco with slightly more than 20 minutes remaining after experiencing discomfort during the match.
His early withdrawal raised concerns about his availability for the Manchester United fixture. Nevertheless, Alonso has confirmed that the Ecuadorian midfielder is fit and ready to play.
"No issue, he is ok for tomorrow," the Chelsea manager said when asked about Caicedo's condition.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have suffered an injury setback involving Lacroix, who sustained a suspected hamstring problem during first-half stoppage time against Liverpool.
The defender was forced to leave the pitch after appearing to suffer the injury while attempting to track Cody Gakpo's movement. Alonso has now confirmed that the Frenchman is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines.
"Max picked up an injury and we expect he is not going to be ready before the international break. He will be a few weeks out," Alonso explained.
There is, however, some positive news regarding goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who is currently recovering from surgery after suffering a broken jaw during Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Everton.
Although the Argentine international will miss Saturday's encounter against Manchester United, he could return earlier than initially anticipated.
Alonso revealed that Martinez has a possibility of recovering before the upcoming international break, although his condition will be assessed again next week.
"Yes, there is a chance. We still need to wait until next week, but there's a chance," he stated.
Elsewhere, Chelsea summer signing Pep Chavarria is expected to return to the matchday squad after recovering from his injury.
However, defender Jorrel Hato remains unavailable and will not feature against Manchester United.
Chelsea will welcome the return of Caicedo and the possibility of Martinez making an earlier comeback. Nevertheless, Lacroix's injury represents another concern for Alonso as the Blues prepare for a challenging Premier League encounter against Manchester United.
