Trull Cricket Club celebrates three league titles in 2026

The first eleven, captained by Elliott Trotman, enjoyed another successful season in the Somerset Cricket League, winning Division Four and securing back-to-back promotions under his leadership.

The Trull skipper said: “After being so close last year, the team was motivated in pre-season to hone their skills and hit the ground running.”

“Going into the season the momentum didn’t stop, and the resilience we showed in tough patches only made us stronger as a group and more motivated.”

“To win the league with only one defeat shows how far we’ve come over the last two years.”

There was equally impressive success for the second eleven, who made an emphatic return to the Somerset Cricket League under newly appointed captain Luke Bottomley.

The side went unbeaten throughout their campaign, storming to the Division Seven title and finishing an outstanding 125 points clear of their nearest challengers.

Bottomley said: “It was a real privilege to captain the second team this year, they really gelled as a squad and excelled on the pitch!”

The success also demonstrates the importance of strength in depth across the club, with the second eleven providing a competitive environment for players to develop, contribute and push for opportunities in the first team.

The club’s achievements were not confined to hardball cricket, with the women’s softball team also enjoying an outstanding campaign.

Captained by Helen Bowler, the side went unbeaten to win the Jones Pairs Division Softball League, completing a memorable league-winning season and ensuring that success was shared across the club.

Their achievement is particularly significant in highlighting the breadth of cricket at Trull, with the women’s team continuing to play an important role in the club’s growth and helping to make cricket accessible to a wider range of players.

Talking about their campaign, Bowler said: “Softball really took a leap this year, from player development, to the increase in participants!”

“Mondays at training were fantastic to be a part of, the girls brought their enthusiasm and A game, improving 1% everytime.”

“Matchdays were brilliant. It wasn’t just the wins, it was the families being there supporting us, making Sundays a day to really look forward to!”

The SCL award of the Ladbrokes Merit Trophy for Club of the Year recognises the broader work taking place at Trull, including the active development of its junior pathways and its commitment to promoting grassroots cricket.

The award represents recognition of the club as a whole, celebrating the collective contribution of players, captains, coaches, volunteers, junior members and supporters who help keep cricket thriving at grassroots level.

With three league titles, two unbeaten teams and successive promotions for the first eleven, 2026 will stand out as a landmark season in Trull Cricket Club’s recent history.

The team looks to build on that momentum going into 2027.
