Rene Meulensteen has broken down why he feels that Julian Nagelsmann would not work out at Manchester United if Ineos sacked Michael Carrick from Old Trafford.
Julian Nagelsmann is currently a free agent and the 39-year-old German has been out of the dugout after Germany crashed out of the World Cup in the summer.
Messi and Ronaldo RUINED the Ballon d'Or
The ex-Germany boss led his country to the round of 32 before Paraguay sealed a stunning upset on penalties to send the four-time champions out of the tournament.
Nagelsmann has been one of many names linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, including managers Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery.
Who should Carrick build his team around? Who can he trust?
We just need to see who is going to be introduced from the 18's or 21's up front. Our academy players know where the goal is!
I agree 💯%. Unfortunately Kobbie is injured, but I am sure he will build a formidable partnership with Baleba going forward. We need to ditch Dalot and Martinez. Amass and Heaven in for them. Lacey should be getting at least 45 minutes, and gradually building that up. Trust in youth. I can't imagine that statement has ever been used at Old Trafford before!
He needs to go back to what worked last season the pressing game with Bruno back in the number 10 role not out wide playing a possession game obviously doesn't work the players need to watch the U18's who playing the pressing game every time get great results
Manchester United have backed Michael Carrick to remain at Old Trafford for now instead of making a change at the Premier League club. The under-pressure United manager will now lead the Red Devils to a tough test on Saturday afternoon for their Premier League visit to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
Speaking on Football Uncensored, Rene Meulensteen offered his two cents on the different managers tipped to arrive at Old Trafford as Carrick’s replacement if Ineos do make the key change. The 62-year-old former United first-team coach explained that it is a ‘red flag’ for the Red Devils that Nagelsmann has not managed in the Premier League and he could turn out to be a real unknown quantity because of it.
“Nagelsmann, no Premier League experience,” Meulensteen said.
“That will be difficult, you know. So, it is not that anybody can say, ‘Well, bring him in and it’s going to go [well]’ because there are two other problems; too many problems in the background that need to be solved first.”
Sir Alex Ferguson’s former United coaching staff member added: “And Simon [Jordan] alluded to it and because you got people in very key positions in the club within [Jason] Wilcox and [Omar] Berrada who are, in my opinion, not good enough to really give the direction to Manchester United what it needs.”
Outside of his time with the Germany national team, Nagelsmann has spent his entire managerial career in his native homeland. The former Germany head coach has previously managed TSG Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.
Compared with other Man Utd-linked managers, including Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery, Nagelsmann has never experienced what it is like to be a manager in the dugout of a Premier League side. Conte has managed at both Chelsea and Tottenham, while Howe was most recently at Newcastle and former Arsenal boss Emery is currently at Aston Villa.
United legend Carrick took charge of the Red Devils’ training session at the Carrington training complex on Tuesday in preparation for his side’s fixture against Chelsea. United’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon is slated for a 12:30pm kick-off time in the UK.
