Former Panthers TE scores wildly improbable TD for Cowboys in Week 8

A former Carolina Panthers tight end was in the right place at the right time—for the first time in a long time—here in Week 8.

The first touchdown of Sunday's matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys came courtesy of James Mitchell, a member of Carolina's 2025 division championship squad. Mitchell, now a Cowboy, recovered a fumble from running back Javonte Williams right in the end zone for six.

Take a look at the improbable score . . .

The timely recovery marked Mitchell's first touchdown since 2022, when he was a rookie with the Detroit Lions. He'd spend his first three NFL campaigns there before joining the Panthers in January of 2025.

Mitchell appeared in five games for Carolina last season, where he recorded three catches for a combined 28 yards. He was released this past summer, during the team's cutdown to their initial 53-man roster.
