Manchester United have learned transfer target Alejandro Balde is also wanted by Serie A giants Roma, according to Il Messaggero.

The Red Devils continue to be linked with Balde after exploring a move to sign the Barcelona left-back in the summer transfer window.

United proposed signing Balde on a season-long loan but Barcelona were only interested in a permanent sale, according to The Athletic.

The 23-year-old has struggled for game time at Barcelona this season, making cameo appearances against Racing Santander and Paris Saint-Germain.

And now Il Messaggero, via Mundo Deportivo, understands Roma are monitoring developments ahead of the transfer window reopening on 1 January.

Roma are one of the most in-form teams in Europe at the moment, having lost just one of their 11 games this season, winning six and drawing four.

The capital club have used Wesley Franca as a left wing-back this season but the Brazil international is naturally right-footed - unlike the left-footed Balde.

Balde has made 170 appearances and registered three goals and 21 assists since breaking into the Barcelona first team in September 2021.

United continue to be linked with Newcastle's Hall

Meanwhile, United are being credited with an interest in several left-backs after missing out on signing one in the summer.

Various sources understand their top target remains Lewis Hall despite failing to extract him from Newcastle United in the lead up to the 2026-27 season.

Regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, England international Hall signed a new five-year contract with Newcastle in September.

However, Man Utd are believed to be undeterred in their pursuit of Hall, who is reportedly valued at around €58.9million (£50m).

Hall joined Newcastle from Chelsea on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for €33m (£27.6m) in August 2023.

He has made 111 appearances for the Magpies and recorded four goals and nine assists, winning the Carabao Cup in March 2025.

Newcastle are hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League today, having lost three of their last four games.

Man Utd, on the other hand, are searching for just their third win of the campaign when they entertain Bournemouth this afternoon.

Manager Michael Carrick is under huge pressure after presiding over a poor run of form which has led to five losses in 11 games this season.
