West Ham United have been offered the opportunity to sign former Manchester United and Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho on a free transfer, with the 26-year-old still a free agent.

Jadon Sancho remains without a club at 26, and with offers few and far between, the 23-capped England international could be on his way to the Championship.

Sancho, who once cost Manchester United £73 million five years ago, has suffered an incredible career decline, but with time on his side, there is an opportunity for it to be revived just yet, as a switch to the second tier with West Ham United has reportedly presented itself.

According to talkSPORT, Championship title contenders West Ham have been offered the opportunity to sign former Man United and Chelsea winger Sancho on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, helping Unai Emery's side lift the Europa League trophy, but having only appeared sparingly, was released by his parent club Man United in the summer.

Sancho, who was once upon a time one of the brightest prospects in the entire world, has been without a club for nearly half-a-year, as most recently, an offer reportedly worth less than £10k-per-week was put on the table in front of him by Spanish side Getafe.

Now, the winger has reportedly been offered to West Ham, where advisers acting on behalf of the 26-year-old have contacted various English clubs, including the Hammers, over a potential move.

Whether dropping to the Championship is something that could seriously entice Sancho, or whether West Ham would even consider his addition at this stage remains to be seen.

Having spent time in the youth ranks of Watford and Manchester City, Sancho joined German giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017, with Die Borussen having garnered a reputation for developing incredible young talent over the years, such as Ousmane Dembélé, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alexander Isak.

The Englishman would show glimpses of his ability in his first year at the club, but would explode into life during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring 12 and assisting 18 in 34 Bundesliga games, and followed that up with 17 goals and 17 assists in 32 games the following year.

By this point, Sancho was the talk of the continent, and in the summer of 2021, sealed a £73 million switch to Man United, but his time in England would not go to plan.

Penning a five-year deal, Sancho would struggle to make an impact in his first two years at Old Trafford, and subsequent loan moves back to Dortmund, then to Chelsea and Aston Villa followed.

Although he would lift the UEFA Europa Conference League and UEFA Europa League in consecutive years, Sancho's stock plummeted, and upon being released by United in the summer, has been without a club since, and is awaiting the correct opportunity to present itself once more, and that could be with West Ham.

At 26, it would be wrong to rule out Sancho just yet, as the Englishman clearly has talent in abundance.

However, it would also be hard to ignore his worrying career dip, and whether a move for the winger at this stage would be the correct move for West Ham, at this stage, remains to be seen.

If the Hammers could guarantee the Sancho of seven/eight years ago, they would surely take him in a heartbeat, but there are obvious red flags that would come with his addition.

Sancho could either prove to be an incredible signing for the Hammers or a massive flop that would provide another critical blow to his career, as this move is one to keep an eye on.
