“Weird Atmosphere” – Celtic Protests Acknowledged by Celta Vigo Boss

The Celtic Park atmosphere may be slightly different against Celta Vigo due to the planned protests, but it’s something that Claudio Giraldez is well aware of.

The Celta Vigo manager spoke ahead of their Celtic showdown, stating that the demand for tickets in the away end was more than usual.

The La Liga side received an allocation of 2,600 for the match, so the travelling support is expected to be lively.

“I received more requests than usual to come”, Giraldez said (via The Herald).

“It shows everyone is really excited to be here and watch the game.

“Our fans made the effort to come here.

“We try to work hard to be able to enjoy a game at Celtic Park.

The Green Brigade confirmed their intention to boycott European and Scottish Cup matches in protest of the Celtic hierarchy, so the home support will need to generate noise without those in the North Curve.

Celta Vigo’s boss understands it may be a “weird atmosphere”, but wants the football to take centre stage.

“We knew that it would be a weird atmosphere in the stands, at this moment, but we hope it won’t affect the game,” Giraldez added.

“These are historic fans and we hope we’ll experience the magical atmosphere of Celtic Park and the game will just be about football.”

It’s a crucial showdown for Martin O’Neill’s side should they qualify for the knockout phase of the competition. After defeats to Ferencváros and Benfica, they must take advantage of their second home game.

The 7-1 rout of Hearts showed what Celtic are capable of when they click as a team. The off-pitch noise won’t take centre stage once the first whistle is blown at 8 pm.
