Lamar Jackson returned to lead the Baltimore Ravens’ offense Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, but his comeback lasted just one play. Jackson injured his right thumb on his first pass attempt and immediately headed to the locker room before being ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The injury quickly turned attention toward Baltimore’s pass protection, with several fans blaming the offensive line for failing to keep Jackson clean. Much of that frustration was also directed at general manager Eric DeCosta, as Ravens fans questioned how the roster was constructed around their franchise quarterback.
Tyler Huntley, the Ravens’ backup quarterback, entered the game in Jackson’s place. But he, too, suffered an injury, forcing rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano to come in for several plays.
One Ravens fan didn’t stay silent in her opinion about the Baltimore offensive line’s play. The fan wrote online, “Nuke the entire offensive line I’m so serious”.
As for this NFL observer, firing DeCosta is a move the franchise should consider right now. The observer wrote, “Can we fire EDC already … Building an O-line that constantly gets ur superstar QB injured is a fireable offense … He needs to be fired already, enough is enough”.
Well, this Ravens fan definitely had a few things to say, especially some harsh words toward Baltimore. The fan wrote on social media, “[Expletive] YOU EDC CHEAP [expletive] NOT WANTING TO UPGRADE O LINE [expletive] YOU”.
DeCosta was still getting words toward his efforts in building the Ravens’ offensive line. This fan posted, “EDC has single handedly ruined this team”.
Want more criticism of DeCosta? Another fan sarcastically took aim at the general manager, writing, “Great O-Line and team you built DeCosta!”
Oh, there was more hate toward DeCosta, too. This NFL observer simply does not find anything that the Ravens’ general manager has done worthwhile.
The fan posted online, “This is on Eric DeCosta for consistently putting together a [expletive] poor offensive line. Just sickening, this has gotta be one of the worst seasons I’ve experienced as a Ravens fan.”
And, well, this Ravens fan could see that Jackson didn’t have much time to make a pass on that play where he injured his thumb. The fan wrote, “Everyone saw Lamar literally had no time to throw the second the ball was snapped … This is on everyone’s favourite GM”.
Entering Week 8, the Ravens’ offensive line ranked 18th in PFN’s Team OL Impact Metric after finishing 16th last season. Baltimore also lost Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum in free agency, leaving a major hole in the middle of the unit.
Baltimore will try to find a way past Buffalo without its star quarterback, but the bigger concern is what Jackson’s latest injury means for the team going forward. Ravens fans will anxiously await an update while the pressure continues to mount on DeCosta over the roster he has built around Jackson.
