Three consecutive wins.
Last night, against Doncaster Rovers, the Hatters completed their run of three consecutive EFL League One home games by comfortably beating the Yorkshire based side.
The third win on the bounce gave Luton Town a magnificent 9 points out of the 9 available and lifted the Hatters up into 8th place, a single point off of the promotion play-off places.
However, while we are greatly appreciative of our maximum points haul, from the aforementioned three wins, our next two games are both away from home, against Peterborough United and Huddersfield Town.
Wouldn’t it be so like Luton Town to lose both?
Last night, Jack Wilshere was forced to make three changes to the starting XI that beat Leicester City with Isaiah Jones replacing the injured Hakeem Odoffin, Jake Richards replacing Tudor Mendel and Callum Marshall stepping in for the ill Jordan Clark.
The Hatters first goal came just before half-time when the referee, Matthew Russell, judged that Kasey Palmer was fouled in the box, with the offence being a slight tug on his shirt from behind, I have every sympathy with the Doncaster Rovers manager, Grant McCann, who was raging about the decision, it did seem a touch harsh.
Callum Marshall took responsibility for the spot kick and duly scored with a low shot into the corner.
The goal inspired the Hatters to pus forward in the second half and a goal from Jamie Donley, in the 51st minute saw the lead doubled.
With Doncaster Rovers reeling, Jamie Donley added a third goal, in the 72nd minute to give Luton Town an unassailable lead.
However, there was still time for the Hatters to get the jitters when, in the 84th minute, when Bayley McCann reduced the arrears with a deft header.
Sensing something akin to a comeback, the visitors looked the more likely to get the next goal, but the Hatters rearguard held firm although, at times, using desperate defending to ease the pressure.
While the three points will be the most positive aspect of the night, seeing Nakhi Wells leaving the pitch with an injury, has to be the most negative aspect of the night, let’s hope he has not, like so many others, picked up a hamstring injury.
A trip to Peterborough awaits the Hatters, on Saturday, can they make it 4 wins on the bounce?
