Tottenham Hotspur fans have become extremely frustrated with James Maddison’s injury situation, with the attacking midfielder suffering multiple setbacks in his efforts to get fully fit.

We are now six league games into the season, and Maddison has still not been deemed fit enough to start by De Zerbi.

In fact, the last Premier League game that the attacking midfielder started was in April of last year, with the 29-year-old suffering two major injuries since, including an ACL tear last summer.

It was hoped that the three-week international break would allow him the time he needs to get back to 100 per cent, but De Zerbi shared that Maddison had suffered a niggle during the break, which meant that he missed a few days of training.

Tottenham will not sell James Maddison in January

A lot of Spurs fans are getting increasingly frustrated with the former Leicester man’s lack of availability.

With Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons tp come back, and with Conor Gallagher also at De Zerbi’s disposal, it is natural to wonder if Tottenham would consider parting ways with Maddison in January.

However, Football Insider have now made it clear that Maddison’s future is still very much at Spurs despite his injury setbacks.

The midfielder is regaining his match fitness slowly after spending a long time on the sidelines, but that has not changed Spurs’ mind about him.

The England international is expected to remain with the Lilywhites, who not only see him as an important player, but also need more leaders within their squad.

As a result, it is suggested that any concerns over Maddison’s future at Hotspur Way have been ‘put to bed’.

Journalist says Maddison is desperate to prove a point

Spurs fans will be desperately hoping to see Maddison back in the starting line-up against Coventry, with the Lilywhites having had nine days to train since their clash at Old Trafford.

Football Insider also spoke to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who suggested that the experienced midfielder has come under too much criticism and that he will be keen to remind everyone of his quality.

When asked about Maddison’s future, O’Rourke told the website: “I don’t think there are any concerns about his future. The criticism is a bit harsh. He’s only made five substitute appearances so far this season.

“And we’ve got to remember, Maddison is still working his way back to full match sharpness and fitness after that long spell out with injury. He missed almost a year of action with that serious injury that he had, and he obviously came back at the back end of last season.

“A fit and firing James Madison improves that Tottenham team for me; there’s no doubt about that, and I’m sure he’ll have a point to prove himself after that long spell out injured. He’ll want to get back to full fitness and prove that he still is a top player.”
