Bournemouth threatened from early set pieces and wide deliveries. The breakthrough came when Justin Kluivert sent a free-kick towards the far post, where Rayan found space to finish past Senne Lammens. United had already needed important interventions from Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro to prevent earlier chances.
Five minutes later, a slip by Yoro allowed Adrien Truffert to recover possession in a dangerous position. Truffert squared the ball and Tavernier finished from close range, taking Bournemouth into half-time with a two-goal lead. The sequence showed how quickly the visitors punished errors around United’s defensive third.
United made changes after the break, bringing on Matheus Cunha for Youri Tielemans at half-time, but Bournemouth continued to find opportunities. Evanilson had an effort disallowed for offside before his legitimate goal arrived in the 71st minute. Lewis Cook’s long pass caught out the home defence and goalkeeper; Evanilson went around Lammens and finished from a tight angle.

United saw more of the ball and attempted more shots, but Bournemouth generated the better quality opportunities according to the recorded expected-goals figures. The visitors needed only four shots on target to score three times, while United failed to beat Djordje Petrović despite five shots on target.
Carrick changed four starters after the 4–1 Champions League defeat at Como and left captain Bruno Fernandes among the substitutes. Carlos Baleba started in midfield, while Amad returned to the XI. United’s attacks did produce opportunities for Bryan Mbeumo and others, but their inability to defend decisive moments proved costly.
The first two goals exposed problems defending a set piece and responding to a turnover. Bournemouth’s third came from a long ball behind the defence, leaving United with little opportunity to mount a comeback. Carrick introduced Lisandro Martínez, Joshua Zirkzee and Shea Lacey during the second half, but the score remained 0–3.
The result was Bournemouth’s third 3–0 league victory at Old Trafford in recent seasons, following wins by the same scoreline in 2023/24 and 2024/25. This time, the visitors combined aggressive attacking movement with disciplined defending and were particularly effective in transition.
Rayan’s finish rewarded Bournemouth’s pressure, Tavernier capitalised on a defensive mistake, and Evanilson’s goal underlined the space the away side found as United searched for a response. Bournemouth also arrived after beating AC Milan 3–0 in the Europa League, making the result part of a successful run across domestic and European competition.
United remained on seven points after eight league matches and sat 16th at the end of the weekend, just above the relegation places. Their winless sequence reached eight games across competitions, increasing the importance of a response in the next league fixture against Chelsea.
Bournemouth’s second consecutive league victory moved them away from the immediate danger at the bottom. The performance also gave Rose another encouraging result after the midweek European win.
