Defending European champions Paris Saint-Germain underlined their continental pedigree on Wednesday night, securing a ruthless 4-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. A rampant first-half display saw the visitors establish a three-goal cushion, and whilst Erling Haaland mounted a spirited second-half response with a brace, Luis Enrique’s side held firm to claim all three points in their UEFA Champions League league-phase fixture. The French champions began proceedings with relentless pressing and incisive transitional play that unpicked the hosts' defence early on. The breakthrough arrived after just 12 minutes when winger Désiré Doué collected a delivery from Fabián Ruiz and guided a precise right-footed strike into the bottom corner.
Before City could reset, PSG doubled their advantage two minutes later. Doué turned provider, delivering an accurate ball into the six-yard box for Ousmane Dembélé to head past Gianluigi Donnarumma. City struggled to stem the flow of counter-attacks, and on 31 minutes, Vitinha orchestrated space inside the area following an exchange with Warren Zaïre-Emery before dispatching the third past the keeper.
Confronting a 3-0 half-time deficit, City manager Enzo Maresca introduced Ayyoub Bouaddi, Iliman Ndiaye, and Matheus Nunes for the second half. The tactical adjustments paid initial dividends seven minutes after the restart when Ndiaye crossed for Haaland to head home from close range. Yet just as momentum appeared to swing toward the hosts, PSG struck back decisively on the counter in the 61st minute. Dembélé found Maghnes Akliouche on the edge of the area, and the midfielder drilled a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner to re-establish a three-goal margin.
Haaland revived hope for City in the 74th minute, tucking away a feed from Bouaddi to register his second of the evening. The home side pushed forwards but could not penetrate an organised Parisian backline anchored by Marquinhos and goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who pulled off five saves. PSG were awarded a late penalty when Nuno Mendes was brought down by Nunes, though Donnarumma denied substitute Ferran Torres's spot-kick to keep the final scoreline at 4-2.
