Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, officially inaugurated the operational Local Organising Committee (LOC) Standing Committee for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With less than eight months remaining before execution benchmarks intensify, CS Mvurya instructed the committee to transition decisively from high-level planning into ground execution, prioritizing strict adherence to project timelines, financial accountability, and operational coordination with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Co-hosted under the tripartite East Africa PAMOJA partnership alongside Uganda and Tanzania, AFCON 2027 represents a multi-billion-shilling national responsibility tasked with delivering lasting benefits beyond football.
CS Mvurya emphasized that the tournament must act as a economic multiplier by catalyzing growth across hospitality, transport logistics, regional aviation, commercial investment, and grassroots sports development.
The unveiling comes as Kenya accelerates major infrastructure works, including the flagship Talanta Sports City Stadium and the ongoing modernization of Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo National Stadium.
The LOC Standing Committee is tasked with managing cross-agency protocols—spanning visa facilitation frameworks, tax exemptions for tournament gear, security integration, and venue compliance—to guarantee an exceptional continental tournament that highlights Kenya's hosting capabilities.
As public and private stakeholders align behind the national hosting roadmap, the activation of the LOC Standing Committee marks a critical benchmark for regional sports governance, state-backed infrastructure delivery, and international event execution.
