Tottenham Stun Chelsea 2-0 as Cole Palmer Sees Red in London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a memorable London derby victory after beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 24, 2026. A costly goalkeeping mistake, a red card for Cole Palmer and a brilliant finish from Mathys Tel helped Spurs secure all three points.

The match remained goalless for much of the contest, with both teams creating chances but struggling to find the breakthrough. Tottenham, however, showed greater control for long periods and continued to put pressure on the home side.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders became the centre of attention in the 77th minute when he attempted to clear a corner delivered by Mateus Fernandes. Under pressure from Tottenham defender Jan Paul van Hecke, Penders punched the ball into his own net, giving the visitors a crucial lead.

The goal was a major setback for Chelsea, who had been hoping to use their home advantage to secure a positive result. Instead, the Blues found themselves chasing the game during the closing stages.

Their situation worsened three minutes later when Palmer received a second yellow card for a foul on Conor Gallagher. The Chelsea attacker was sent off, leaving his teammates with ten men for the remainder of the match.

Tottenham took advantage of their numerical superiority and sealed the victory in the 87th minute through Tel. The French forward collected the ball inside his own half, drove forward, moved past Chelsea defenders and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

The goal capped an impressive individual effort and ensured Tottenham left Stamford Bridge with a two-goal advantage.

The result was particularly significant for Spurs, who had struggled to win at Chelsea's home ground in recent years. The victory also gave Roberto De Zerbi's side back-to-back wins within six days, providing encouragement as they seek greater consistency in the Premier League.

For Chelsea, the defeat raised questions about their performance, with Penders' unfortunate mistake and Palmer's dismissal proving costly moments in the derby.

Tottenham will take confidence from the result, while Chelsea must regroup quickly and address the mistakes that contributed to their disappointing evening.

The match also leaves fans debating the biggest talking point: Tel's outstanding goal, Penders' own goal or Palmer's red card.
