Premier League: How the Table Stands Following Matchweek 8

Arsenal and Manchester City remain locked in a close Premier League title race following Matchweek 8 of the 2026/27 season, with both sides facing setbacks in their latest league matches.

According to reports, Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat against Everton, while Manchester City lost 2-1 to Aston Villa. The results have affected the standings as teams continue competing for points near the top of the table.

Liverpool strengthened their position with a 2-0 victory over Brighton, moving into fourth place with 15 points. Chelsea, meanwhile, lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, allowing their London rivals to claim an important away win.

Aston Villa collected three points against Manchester City after Nicolas Jackson scored twice. Erling Haaland scored for City, but Villa maintained their advantage to secure the victory.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth recorded a 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Newcastle United defeated Crystal Palace 2-0. Fulham also earned three points after beating Coventry City 1-0.

Sunderland and Leeds United played out a goalless draw, while other results across the round influenced the positions of several clubs.

At the bottom of the table, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Sunderland faced pressure as they sought to improve their positions and move away from the relegation zone.

The standings following Matchweek 8 provide an early indication of the competition developing across the Premier League. However, the season remains in its early stages, and subsequent results could significantly change the positions of clubs at both ends of the table.
