Gor Mahia maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over APS Bomet at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Saturday, October 17.
Midfielder Alpha Onyango scored the decisive goal in the 86th minute, handing the record Kenyan champions their second consecutive victory and taking their points tally to six from two matches.
The victory followed Gor Mahia's impressive 4-2 triumph over Murang'a Seal in their season opener. Charles Akonnor's men entered Saturday's encounter seeking another three points to strengthen their position at the top of the standings.
APS Bomet, meanwhile, were hoping to register their first victory after opening their campaign with a goalless draw against Mathare United.
Both sides created several opportunities in an entertaining first half, but neither could find the breakthrough. Kevin Omondi produced important saves for Gor Mahia, while Bomet goalkeeper Maxwell Mulili also kept the visitors at bay.
Gor continued to push after the break, with Jackson Dwang coming close before the hosts threatened through Frank Mandela and Bruno Bunyaga.
Akonnor responded by introducing Ben Stanley, Daniel Sakari and Enock Machaka around the hour mark in an attempt to inject fresh energy into his team's attack.
The substitutions helped Gor increase their pressure, although Bomet remained dangerous on the counterattack.
With the match heading towards a draw, Stanley provided the decisive assist in the 86th minute, setting up Onyango to fire a low shot from near the edge of the box into the net.
The late strike proved enough to separate the sides, with Gor Mahia defending their advantage through the closing minutes to secure maximum points.
The result leaves Gor with six points from two matches, while APS Bomet suffered their first defeat of the season and remain in search of their maiden victory.
