Murang’a United produced a commanding performance to beat Posta Rangers 5-1, while Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana were held to draws in the latest Kenya Premier League matches.
The emphatic victory strengthened Murang’a’s position in the standings as the battle for early-season supremacy continued, with several clubs still having matches in hand.
According to the standings before the latest fixtures, Gor Mahia remained top of the table with six points from two matches after winning both games. KCB, Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana followed with four points each.
Murang’a had entered the latest round with three points from two matches, having scored seven goals and conceded five. Their 5-1 victory over Posta Rangers was a major boost, although their updated position depends on the official table after the results were incorporated.
Kakamega Homeboyz were unable to secure maximum points after playing to a 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars. The result denied Homeboyz an opportunity to move closer to Gor Mahia at the summit, while Ulinzi added to their points tally.
Shabana also dropped points after a goalless draw against Nairobi United. Both sides shared the spoils in a tightly contested encounter, with neither team managing to find the back of the net.
Nairobi United had started the round with two points from two matches after recording two draws. Shabana, meanwhile, had collected four points from their opening two games.
Gor Mahia’s position at the top puts pressure on their closest challengers as the league campaign gathers momentum. KCB and Kakamega Homeboyz remain among the early contenders, while Murang’a’s big win could make them a team to watch in the coming fixtures.
With the season still in its early stages, teams will be keen to build consistency and avoid dropping valuable points as the race for the KPL title intensifies.
