The organisers of the Ballon d’Or, France Football, have confirmed that Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is currently leading an official fan poll to determine the greatest winner in the history of the prestigious award.

The voting exercise, which commenced in early October, gives football fans the opportunity to select the greatest Ballon d’Or winner of all time.

The contest features 10 football legends who have each won the award at least twice, highlighting some of the most accomplished players in the history of the game.

Other nominees include Argentina captain Lionel Messi, former France international Michel Platini, Kevin Keegan, Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario, Marco van Basten and Johan Cruyff.

Providing an update on the ongoing poll, the Ballon d’Or organisers confirmed Ronaldo’s position in a post on their social media platforms.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is leading,” a post on the Ballon d’Or social media feed read.

“You can still vote for your B.O.A.T. and try to win 2 tickets to the 2027 ceremony!

“Choose your BALLON D’OR OF ALL TIME among the players who have won the award multiple times.”
