Diego Gomez scores Premier League’s longest-range goal in nine years

Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez scored from 51 metres against Crystal Palace after seven minutes of their Premier League match.

According to Opta, the Paraguay international’s effort is the furthest-distance goal in the English top flight since 2017.

Wayne Rooney, then playing for Everton, struck from 58 metres against West Ham nine years ago.

By the 80th minute, Brighton had scored four times against Crystal Palace. Fabian Hurzeler’s side will move up to second in the Premier League table if they secure victory.
