Man City dealt transfer blow as Real Madrid star makes future decision

Manchester City have been dealt a setback in their pursuit of one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents, with the Real Madrid star seemingly committing his future to the Spanish giants.

Pep Guardiola’s side were among the Premier League clubs exploring a potential deal, but a major development at the Bernabeu looks to have closed the door on a move to the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Man City Miss Out as Arda Güler Agrees Real Madrid Extension

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City’s hopes of signing Arda Güler have suffered a significant blow after the Turkey international agreed a new contract with Real Madrid.

City were among the clubs to hold talks with the 21-year-old’s representatives during the summer, as Guardiola’s side considered bringing the creative midfielder to England. Arsenal were also keen, with both clubs outlining their plans in an attempt to convince the youngster that a move to the Premier League would be the right next step in his career.

However, Güler has now agreed a two-year extension that will keep him at the Bernabeu until at least 2031, effectively ending City’s immediate hopes of securing his signature.

The development comes after speculation that the midfielder’s position could become less certain following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Real Madrid manager. City had reportedly been monitoring the situation in case there was an opportunity to prise him away from the Spanish capital.

Instead, Mourinho has made clear that he rates Güler highly, while club president Florentino Perez is also understood to be a major admirer of the Turkish playmaker. The midfielder’s regular involvement has further strengthened his position in Madrid’s long-term plans.

Güler’s quality was on display during Real Madrid’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Roma, when he provided two assists to help his side complete a comeback. His creativity and versatility make him an attractive prospect, with the ability to operate as a number 10 or in wider attacking positions.

For City, missing out on Güler means they may have to look elsewhere if they decide to add another creative option to Guardiola’s squad. His technical ability and vision would have offered a different dimension in the final third, although persuading Real Madrid to part with a player they view as central to their future was always likely to prove difficult.

TEAMtalk reports that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have also made contact with Güler’s camp during the year, highlighting the widespread interest in his services.

With a new agreement now in place and the player continuing to earn the trust of Mourinho, City appear unlikely to revive their pursuit in the near future. Any future approach would require a major change in circumstances at the Bernabeu, leaving Guardiola to consider alternative targets.
