SULOM probes Bingu Stadium blackout

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) is investigating the blackout at Bingu National Stadium that forced the abandonment of Sunday’s match between Masters FC and Karonga United.

The match was stopped in the 78th minute after the floodlights went off. Although power was restored after 25 minutes, Karonga United refused to return to the pitch.

In a statement released today, SULOM said it was investigating the cause of the blackout and whether the stadium had adequate backup power arrangements.

SULOM has awarded Masters FC three points and a 3-0 win, while Karonga United faces disciplinary action for refusing to resume the match.
