Barcelona midfielder Gavi has acknowledged Kylian Mbappe’s quality as one of the best players in world football while discussing the Real Madrid forward’s trophy record ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico.
The Spanish international believes Mbappe’s individual brilliance should not be judged solely by the number of trophies he has won, insisting that collective success depends on the strength of the entire team.
According to Madrid Universal, Gavi made the remarks ahead of Barcelona’s blockbuster La Liga encounter with Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou.
Mbappe is expected to play a crucial role for Los Blancos as both teams battle for supremacy in a fixture that could have significant implications for the title race.
Despite the fierce rivalry between the two clubs, Gavi refused to downplay the Frenchman’s abilities, recognising his goalscoring prowess and standing among the game’s elite players.
“It’s true that Kylian Mbappe scores a lot of goals, but he hasn’t managed to turn that into trophies so far. However, that doesn’t diminish his value in the slightest.
“He is one of the best players in the world, and he proves it consistently. Mbappé is an exceptional and incredibly dangerous player, and anyone who can’t see that is blind, right?
“Winning trophies doesn’t depend solely on a player’s individual level; it is also influenced by the strength of the team and the players around him,” he said, as quoted by Madrid Zone.
His assessment comes amid continued discussions about Mbappe’s trophy record, particularly the major honours that have eluded him despite his impressive performances.
Gavi’s comments suggest that while Mbappe remains a formidable opponent, his individual quality alone cannot guarantee success for Real Madrid.
The French forward will be hoping to make his presence felt when the two Spanish giants renew their rivalry on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will be determined to make home advantage count as they look to secure an important victory over their biggest rivals.
