Watch: DRS denies Bangladesh quick second Test hat-trick within a month

Hasan Mahmud had completed his second Test hat-trick within a month, but the on-field umpire’s decision was overturned by DRS.

Mahmud was on a roll on the morning of the second day of the ongoing second Test against the West Indies. He castled centurion Amir Jangoo, who erred in his judgement and left the ball only to see his off-stump go for a walk. The Bangladesh quick then bowled a peach of a delivery to dismiss opposition captain Roston Chase, caught behind for a golden duck.

Joshua Bishop faced the hat-trick delivery and played down the wrong line as the ball seamed in significantly off the surface to thud into his pads. A vociferous appeal followed, and on-field umpire Nitin Menon adjudged the batter LBW, sending the Bangladesh players and fans into celebration as Mahmud completed yet another hat-trick.

However, Bishop went for the review, with replays showing he had inside-edged the ball and the decision was overturned through DRS. Nevertheless, it was a terrific over from the 27-year-old who made the second new ball talk and brought his team back into the game.

This would’ve been his second hat-trick within a month in Test cricket. Mahmud had picked up a hat-trick only last month against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, when he sent back Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad and Zia-ur-Rehman off consecutive deliveries.

Mahmud’s six-wicket haul helps Bangladesh bundle West Indies for 356

Coming back to the Bangladesh vs West Indies Test, Mahmud eventually dismissed Bishop a few overs later and then castled Shamar Joseph in the first over after lunch to finish with a six-wicket haul. Bangladesh bundled out the West Indies for 356, but not before they recovered from a precarious position of 27-3, riding on Jangoo's hundred, and Kevin Wickham and Justin Greaves' respective fifties.

In response to West Indies’ 356, Bangladesh lost both openers early and were 36-2 going into tea on the second day.
