Victor Osimhen scored against his former club as Galatasaray came from behind to defeat Lille 4-2 in France, securing their first victory of the Champions League campaign.
The Nigerian striker sealed the result with a second-half goal, finishing a quick counter-attack to help the Turkish champions recover from their opening European setback against Barcelona.
Galatasaray made an early breakthrough through Yunus Akgun, who scored after just 66 seconds following a defensive error by Lille’s Alexsandro.
Lille responded six minutes later when 19-year-old Soriba Diaoune collected a through-ball from Alexsandro, rounded goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and scored into an empty net.
Diaoune struck again in the 39th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound to put the French side ahead after Galatasaray had threatened through Osimhen.
However, the visitors equalised just before half-time when Aleksey Batrakov headed home unmarked from Roland Sallai’s cross.
Galatasaray regained the lead seven minutes after the restart. Lucas Torreira’s header from a corner at the near post took a final touch from Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer before crossing the line.
Osimhen then extended the visitors’ advantage shortly after the hour mark, finishing a rapid counter-attack to register his first Champions League goal since February.
The goal proved crucial as Galatasaray maintained their advantage to claim all three points and leave Lille still searching for their first points in the competition.
The victory provides Galatasaray with a response after their 4-1 home defeat against Barcelona last week. Their comeback also exposed defensive weaknesses in a Lille side that had surrendered its advantage.
Galatasaray will next host Stuttgart on Tuesday, November 3, at 17:45 GMT as they seek to build on their first European victory of the season.
Lille will travel to Norway to face Bodo/Glimt later that day at 20:00 GMT, hoping to get their campaign underway after consecutive home defeats.
