Everton face Arsenal next in the Premier League, but elsewhere in the league there’s an interesting clash between two former key Everton figures.

Indeed, Fulham face Coventry City next week, and that game may well be of interest to Everton fans as two former key Goodison Park figures are set to face off.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry will take on a Fulham team that is built around Alex Iwobi as the two former Evertonians get ready to face off.

Speaking to Stan Sports, Iwobi has been discussing his upcoming reunion with Lampard, and he’s reserved some kind words for his former gaffer.

Alex Iwobi is forever grateful for Frank Lampard

Iwobi spoke about Fulham’s upcoming game against Coventry and the fact that he will be facing his former manager.

Interestingly, Iwobi said Lampard saved his career when he came in at Everton, but despite being forever grateful for him, he wants to put misery on him this weekend.

“Against my old manager Frank Lampard as well. I’m a bit excited for that to go up against him and get a win.

“Just on Frank, how do you feel about that?”

“I’m always grateful for him, I always say, even though he tries to deny it, he resurrected my career at Everton. I’m hoping to put misery in his camp, but I’m excited for the game,”

What did Frank Lampard do for Alex Iwobi?

It was a little while ago now, but at one point, Iwobi’s Everton career appeared to be dead and buried.

Iwobi has previously noted how Rafa Benitez almost got rid of him at Everton before Lampard came in and gave him some freedom, moving him into a more central midfield role.

Games 40
Goals 2
Assists 9

Since then, Iwobi has switched clubs, joining Fulham back in 2023, and it’s that midfield role where he has thrived for the Whites – mostly under another former Everton boss, Marco Silva.

Lampard’s Everton legacy is complicated given the ups and downs around the club at that time, but one of his big success stories was getting the best out of Iwobi, and, as he says, saving his career.
