Brazil’s nine-goal scorers pose threat to Nigeria’s Flamingos
blank

Brazil will present Nigeria’s Flamingos with a collective attacking threat when both countries clash in Wednesday’s semi-final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The South Americans have demonstrated impressive attacking depth, with nine different players finding the net at the tournament, a statistic that shows the challenge awaiting Akeem Busari’s Nigerian side.

Greise Kelly leads Brazil’s scoring chart with three goals, while Helena, Marcela Bontorim, Nicolly Manuel and Pepe have contributed two goals each.

Carol Melo, Indy, Kaillany Ranifah and Sofia Gamonal have also scored once apiece.

The spread of goals across the Brazilian squad suggests that Nigeria cannot afford to concentrate their defensive attention on one particular player, despite Greise’s outstanding contribution to the campaign.

Brazil will face the Flamingos at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex at 7pm Nigerian time, with a place in the final at stake.

Nigeria, however, have already demonstrated their ability to upset the tournament’s established hierarchy.

The Flamingos defeated defending champions DPR Korea 3-1 in their final Group B encounter, inflicting the Asian powerhouses’ first defeat at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in eight years.

The result also maintained a remarkable pattern in the competition, with two semi-finalists emerging from the same group for the fifth consecutive edition.

Nigeria and DPR Korea are the representatives from Group B to reach the last four, although they will now pursue different routes to the final.

While DPR Korea face Japan, Nigeria must overcome an unbeaten Brazilian side to secure their place in the championship match.

The Flamingos will hope that the confidence gained from their historic group-stage victory over DPR Korea, coupled with their subsequent knockout successes against Mexico and Venezuela, will help them overcome the South Americans.

Brazil’s nine different goalscorers will nevertheless demand considerable defensive discipline from Nigeria as the West Africans seek to make history in Morocco.
