Rilany Reveals Two Major Mistakes Brazil Made Against Nigeria in Morocco

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Brazil U-17 women's head coach Rilany Silva has identified the technical mistakes and defensive problems that contributed to her team's 3-1 defeat against Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco.

The Brazilian coach watched her side lose to the Flamingos on Wednesday after Nigeria produced an impressive performance to secure qualification for the tournament's final.

Goals from Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru, who scored twice, ensured that Nigeria overcame their South American opponents and booked their place in Saturday's final.

The result was a significant disappointment for Brazil, who had hoped to progress to the final but struggled to deal with Nigeria's attacking approach throughout the encounter.

Reflecting on the defeat, Rilany admitted that her players made several technical errors which allowed the Flamingos to take advantage of important moments during the match.

She explained that Brazil's inability to execute simple passes and their difficulties dealing with Nigeria's transitions contributed significantly to the outcome.

The coach also pointed out that her players struggled against the physical approach of their opponents, particularly when Nigeria launched counter-attacks.

Rilany compared the team's performance against Nigeria with their previous encounter against Ghana, highlighting the consequences of making technical mistakes when facing physically strong opposition.

Speaking after the semi-final, the Brazilian tactician acknowledged that such errors could prove costly against teams with the physical qualities demonstrated by the Flamingos.

She explained that Brazil paid for their mistakes because Nigeria capitalised on opportunities created through transitions and counter-attacking situations.

The coach also expressed concern about the number of misplaced passes, describing them as simple errors that affected her team's ability to control the game.

Her assessment highlighted the areas where Brazil struggled against Nigeria, particularly their inability to maintain possession effectively and prevent the Flamingos from exploiting spaces during attacking transitions.

Despite their disappointment, Brazil still have an opportunity to finish the competition on a positive note. Rilany's team will face North Korea in the third-place match on Saturday, with both sides hoping to secure a victory and conclude their campaigns with a podium finish.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will turn their attention to the final against Japan as the Flamingos pursue their first-ever U-17 Women's World Cup title.

The Nigerian team will also be aiming to complete a historic campaign after becoming the first African nation to reach the final of the competition.
