Ambassador Aliyu Isa Edu has launched the second edition of the Aliyu Isa Premier Under-18 Football Tournament (AIPUFT 2.0), with registration for participating teams scheduled to open on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The tournament, which builds on the inaugural edition, will feature 26 teams representing local government areas across Kwara North and Kwara South Senatorial Districts.
The announcement followed a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held on Monday, November 2, between the tournament’s organising committee, the leadership of the Kwara State Football Association and Local Government Football Councils.
According to the organising committee, the competition is scheduled to run from December 13 to 30, with the grand finale to be held at the Main Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin.
The tournament is designed for players aged 18 and below, with each participating team permitted to register a maximum of 22 players and three officials.
Under the prize structure, the winners will receive N1.5 million, while the runners-up will get N1 million. The third-placed team will receive N750,000, while N1.25 million has been set aside as consolation prizes to be shared among the other participating teams.
The organising committee said the respective Local Government Football Associations would be responsible for selecting and nominating teams to represent their areas.
Interested grassroots clubs and teams have therefore been advised to contact their respective LGFA chairmen for participation and registration details.
It also warned against double registration, stating that any player registered with more than one team would be automatically disqualified.
The committee said registration details, player licensing forms and team verification arrangements would be communicated through LGFA executives and designated team officials via the tournament’s secretariat.
AIPUFT 2.0 is expected to bring together young footballers from the participating local government areas, with the organisers positioning the competition as part of efforts to promote grassroots football and youth development in Kwara State.
