The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, on reaching the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
In a statement on the CAF website on Thursday, Motsepe said the team had made Africa and CAF proud by becoming the first African side to reach the final of the competition.
TVC News Online reports that the Flamingos secured their place in the final after defeating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final, marking a historic achievement for Nigerian and African football.
“Dr Motsepe said Nigeria’s Flamingos have made Africa and CAF proud by achieving this historic milestone. President Motsepe will travel to Rabat, Morocco to watch the Flamingos against Japan in the Final on Saturday, 7 November 2026 at 18h30 local time / GMT,” read part of the statement.
Nigeria’s achievement follows previous third-place finishes by Ghana in 2012 and the Flamingos in 2022. Both teams secured bronze medals after defeating Germany in the third-place matches.
