Under-21s return to PL2 summit with win over Leicester

Our Under-21s are back on top of the Premier League 2 table after earning a 2-0 win over Leicester City at Hotspur Way on Sunday afternoon.

After a frustrating first half where we struggled to take control of the game, we improved in the second half and took our opportunities.

Tyrese Hall set us on our way with a fine clipped effort just past the hour mark before Elisha Sowunmi made sure of the points with his first goal in Lilywhite.

There was truly very little of note that happened in a somewhat sloppy first half. Battered by the rain at a very wet Hotspur Way, both sides really struggled to produce much.

That being said, it would probably be fair to say Leicester slightly edged proceedings but we remained firm at the back - boosted by Jun'ai Byfield, who was making his first start since January.

However, we vastly improved in the second half. The Foxes had a couple of chances in the opening 10 minutes of the half which they failed keep on target but once Hall clipped home on 61 minutes, we didn't look back.

That goal came from a Leicester mistake with Hall picking up goalkeeper Harry French's loose pass 25 yards out before coolly clipping home from range.

It should have been 2-0 10 minutes later as a well-worked move down the left eventually saw Harry Byrne feed Reiss Elliott-Parris but the forward couldn't quite divert his effort on target.

Five minutes later, we did have that all important second goal though as from a similar position, Sowunmi guided in with a curling drive to seal the three points and move us back to the top of the Premier League 2.

The win was our third in a row in the PL2 while we also secured our first clean sheet of the season.
