Rangers International have arrived in Algeria for Friday’s CAF Champions League second-leg meeting with MC Alger, carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Abeokuta.
The Enugu side landed at Houari Boumediene Airport yesterday ahead of the match at the Martyr Ali Ammar Stadium in Douira. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time, with Lesotho’s David Mulisa appointed as referee.
Rangers earned their lead at the MKO Abiola Sports Centre on Sunday and are now seeking to finish the tie away from home.
MC Alger, meanwhile, have called on their supporters to help the team overturn the deficit while maintaining sportsmanship.
“Continue to demonstrate sportsmanship, especially during the return match at the Martyr Ali Ammar Stadium, and continue supporting the team by all available means to achieve the desired qualification to the group stage,” the Algerian club said in a statement.
The appeal comes after allegations of damage to property and misconduct involving visiting supporters during the first leg. Nigerian followers have expressed concern about the atmosphere Rangers may face in Douira, although MC Alger’s statement explicitly urged its fans to behave responsibly.
For Rangers, the immediate task is on the pitch: protect their two-goal lead and secure a place in the group stage.
