Chelsea are considering a move for Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari after negotiations over his future at the club reached an impasse.
The Blues have joined Galatasaray in monitoring the 23-year-old Swedish midfielder of Tunisian origin, according to TEAMtalk. Ayari’s position at Brighton remains uncertain, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Ayari has become an important part of Fabian Hurzeler’s squad since establishing himself at Brighton. The club have an option to extend his deal by a further year, but that clause has not yet been activated.
Discussions between Ayari and Brighton have been under way for several months without reaching an agreement. The lack of progress has attracted interest from clubs looking to take advantage of the uncertainty around the player’s situation.
Chelsea are following the case closely, with sporting director Paul Winstanley understood to be familiar with Ayari’s profile. The London club are assessing their options ahead of the next transfer windows.
Galatasaray are also interested, while a number of Premier League clubs are keeping track of developments. However, the main competition for Ayari could come from elsewhere in Europe.
Brighton now face pressure to clarify their position and avoid allowing the situation to weaken further. Chelsea may see an opportunity to recruit a young midfielder who already has experience of the demands of English football.
No transfer has been agreed, and Ayari’s future will depend largely on the outcome of negotiations with Brighton. The Seagulls must decide whether to secure his services with a contract extension or risk losing control of the situation as interest grows.
Brighton are due to face Liverpool in their eighth-round match of the English championship in the near future.
