Serie A | Udinese 0-3 Lecce: Runjaic falls to five straight defeats

Kosta Runjaic and Udinese fell to their fifth straight defeat in Serie A on Sunday afternoon as Lecce rose to a 3-0 victory at the Bluenergy Stadium thanks to goals from Kiolonda Gaspar, Konan N’Dri and Jamil Siebert.

Udinese have started the 2026-27 season in troubling form with just four points picked up from their first seven matches of the Serie A campaign. They had fallen to consecutive defeats against Torino, Cagliari, Inter and Lazio in the weeks leading up to Sunday’s clash against Lecce.

Lecce had also lost their two previous matches, against Bologna and Milan, heading into Sunday’s game against Udinese. They began the afternoon two points better off than their opponents.

Lecce made use of their strong aerial threat to get off the mark away against Udinese this afternoon: Gaspar rising highest in the penalty area to nod in Antonino Gallo’s corner after 11 minutes. This was the Angolan’s first goal in the Italian top flight.

It was another set-piece that sent the visitors into a two-goal lead shortly after the half hour mark.

The corner came in from the opposite wing this time. Gaspar got his head to it again at the far post, knocking the ball back into the middle of the area for N’Dri to convert via a deflection.

Jan Piotrowski had the ball in the back of the net for Udinese, converting with his first touch after a low ball into the area, but was promptly flagged for offside.

Lecce were cruising towards victory in the final stages, but were gifted a third goal to put the result beyond any doubt.

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp was cheaply dismissed just beyond the half-way line, which allowed Siebert to nick the ball and carry it all the way into the area before finishing brilliantly into the roof of the net for 3-0.

Today’s result sends Lecce temporarily up to 11th place in the Serie A standings, whilst Udinese, increasingly under pressure in the early stages of 2026-27, have slipped into 17th place on just four points after seven games, and will end the weekend in the relegation zone if Fiorentina pick up a point at home against Como on Sunday afternoon.
