According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Liverpool staged an impressive second-half recovery to defeat Brentford 2-1 in their Premier League encounter. Goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak helped the visitors overturn an early deficit and secure all three points in a match marked by injuries, controversial VAR decisions and two red cards for the home side.
Brentford began the contest with considerable energy, putting Liverpool under pressure and creating several promising opportunities. Igor Thiago nearly opened the scoring in the 28th minute after receiving a pass from Dango Ouattara, but his attempt narrowly missed the target. Liverpool, meanwhile, struggled to establish their rhythm and suffered setbacks when Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz were forced off through injuries during the first half.
The hosts eventually took the lead in the 44th minute. Thiago produced an excellent cross into the penalty area, where Keane Lewis-Potter met the delivery with a powerful close-range header that beat Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool were presented with a possible opportunity to equalise before the interval when Ouattara was penalised for a foul inside the penalty area. However, referee John Brooks reviewed the incident with the assistance of VAR and overturned the penalty decision, leaving the visitors frustrated.
Brentford's difficulties increased during first-half stoppage time when Yegor Yarmolyuk was shown a straight red card following another VAR review. The dismissal reduced the hosts to ten players and gave Liverpool a numerical advantage for the remainder of the match.
Liverpool gradually took control after the restart and found their equaliser in the 62nd minute. Florian Wirtz supplied the assist, allowing Munoz to unleash an excellent strike from the edge of the penalty area to bring the score level.
The visitors completed their comeback eight minutes later. Bradley Barcola directed a cross into a dangerous position with a header, enabling Isak to react quickly and fire the ball into the net to put Liverpool ahead.
Brentford struggled to respond, particularly after losing another player in the closing stages. Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card in the 90+2nd minute, leaving the hosts with only nine men.
Liverpool continued searching for another goal, with Barcola striking the crossbar during the late stages. Nevertheless, the visitors maintained their advantage until the final whistle, completing a hard-fought 2-1 victory after a challenging first half.
