Havertz scores as Arsenal defeat Liverpool 1-0 to take top spot in Premier League

German striker Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal as Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Arsenal claimed the lead in the 16th minute when Havertz tapped home a low cross from Declan Rice following a defensive mix-up by the hosts.

Liverpool pushed hard for an equalizer, coming close when Florian Wirtz curled a free kick against the crossbar and Alexis Mac Allister headed a clear opportunity over the target. However, Mikel Arteta’s side maintained a resolute defensive effort to secure their first Premier League victory at Anfield in 14 years.

The result elevates Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table with 24 points, leapfrogging Manchester City, who sit on 21 points following a weekend home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion. Meanwhile, the loss leaves Liverpool fifth in the standings, nine points off the lead.
