Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Kgotso Moleko has opened up on how his move to Lesotho outfit Lifofane FC for a fresh chapter outside South African borders came about.

The experienced right-back joined Lifofane in June this year from SAFA Free State ABC Motsepe League side Mangaung Unite.

Moleko was part of the Mangaung squad that competed in the 2025/26 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs held in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, in June 2026. The 37-year-old played a pivotal role in guiding Mangaung to the Free State ABC Motsepe League provincial title, earning them a spot in the national promotional playoffs.

He joined Lifofane immediately after the South African third-tier national playoffs. Lifofane finished as runners-up in the Lesotho elite league last season after collecting 60 points from 30 matches—narrowly missing out on the league title by just five points behind winners Lijabatho FC.

Moleko has already hit the ground running in the new season for Lifofane. Last weekend, he walked away with the Man of the Match accolade when his side defeated Villa FC 3-0 at home at ST Thejane Stadium.

However, as things stand, Lifofane find themselves in 11th position on the log standings with seven points from seven outings.

KGOTSO MOLEKO ON HIS MOVE TO LIFOFANE FC

In conversation with FARPost, Moleko revealed how a patient pursuit from Lesotho outfit Lifofane convinced him to make the switch after representing Mangaung at the national playoffs.

“Well, last season I was playing in Bloemfontein for Mangaung Unite. Lifofane’s hierarchy approached me, I think, after my first game, which was in December last year,” Moleko told FARPost in an exclusive interview from his base in Lesotho.

“They just approached me and asked how long I had been playing. I told them this was my first game. Remember, I took a break from football due to an injury [a broken chin], so my rehabilitation took a little bit longer.

“They asked me if I was interested in joining them in January this year. But I told them I couldn’t join them in January because I was playing for Mangaung Unite. At the time, we were leading the league and managed to reach the national playoffs of the ABC Motsepe League. My aim was to help the team get promoted; however, things didn’t go according to plan, as we couldn’t get promoted.

“However, I had spoken with Lifofane management and made agreements to join them after the playoffs. So, that’s how things happened. They had to wait for me until the end of the season. They really wanted me in January because they were leading the log standings. But I had to respect Mangaung Unite until the season ended.”
