Childs, who made two senior appearances, was the club's oldest surviving former player.

He died on Friday at the age of 96.

Born in Liverpool, 'Bert', as he was known, joined the Reds as an amateur in early 1952.

He made his debut at Anfield in a First Division win over Burnley in September 1953 and then retained his place in the starting XI the following week against Charlton Athletic.

Childs also represented Northern Nomads, Bishop Auckland, South Liverpool and Wigan Rovers during his career.

Everyone at LFC sends their condolences to Albert's family and friends at this difficult time.

RIP Albert Childs, 1930-2026
