On 13 August 2026, in Casablanca, Refiloe Jane scored the 77th-minute goal that ended Nigeria's run of World Cup appearances. South Africa won 2-1 in the inter-confederation play-in. Pretoria News recorded it as the captain's 155th appearance for her country, and she was sent off late on for a second yellow card, which in its way summed up the evening: decisive, combative, still at the centre of everything Banyana Banyana do at 34.

Our old profile still had her in Italy. This is where her career stands in October 2026.

Refiloe Jane biography and career abroad

Kliptown first. Jane was born there on 4 August 1992 and came through the South African women's game with Mamelodi Sundowns and TUT Ladies, the Tshwane University of Technology side.

The national team noticed her early. She made her senior debut in 2012 against Cyprus, IOL reported, and went to the London Olympics that summer. In Rio four years later she played every minute of the three group games.

Australia came next. Canberra United signed her in August 2018 together with Rhoda Mulaudzi, the first South Africans in the W-League, and she scored twice in ten games. AC Milan followed in 2019. Over three Serie A seasons she made 45 appearances and scored three goals, modest numbers for a holding midfielder whose real job was to set the tempo and protect the back four rather than arrive in the box. In August 2022 she moved to Sassuolo.

Then the injury.

She was stretchered off during the group stage of the 2023 World Cup and missed the last-16 defeat by the Netherlands. The problem dragged on. She left Sassuolo in June 2024 and spent close to a year without competitive football. “It was a really tough period,” she later told The Star.

Back home at TS Galaxy Queens

TS Galaxy Queens announced her in March 2025 as one of eight signings for the Hollywoodbets Super League. She started the opener against First Touch Academy in Polokwane and set up Promise Selana in a 2-0 win. Her first goal for the club came in May, against the University of Pretoria.

“Playing at TS Galaxy doesn't mean my role at Banyana will change,” she told Sowetan in July 2025. A year on, CAF still listed her as a TS Galaxy player when the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations squad was named.

Captain of Banyana Banyana

The armband made her name. Jane captained South Africa to the 2022 WAFCON title in Morocco, the country's first continental crown, and a year later was in the side that reached the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time. Her coach throughout has been Desiree Ellis.

Since then it has been harder.

Nigeria won the 2025 WAFCON semi-final 2-1 in Casablanca, and Ghana took third place on penalties. In 2026 Morocco beat them 2-1 in the quarter-finals in Rabat.

The milestones keep coming, though. On 9 June 2026 she won her 150th cap in a 1-0 friendly win over Japan, the first time a senior African women's side had beaten them in an official match, and it was her corner that Linda Motlhalo turned in. Only Janine van Wyk and Noko Matlou have more caps. “I am very excited to have reached 150 caps for the national team,” she told IOL.

Refiloe Jane salary, net worth and wife

No reliable salary figure exists. Neither TS Galaxy nor SAFA publishes what players earn, and no South African outlet has reported her contract terms, so the US$1 million salary and US$5 million net worth that once appeared on this page cannot be supported and have been removed. Our guide to Banyana Banyana players' salaries covers what is known about pay in the squad.

Cars? Nothing verified.

Searchers often ask about a husband. Jane is in fact married to Christa Kgamphe, a sports administrator appointed head of women's football at Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in 2024. Kgamphe appeared on the Showmax series Sports Wives in 2023 and told Sowetan: “My wife is my biggest supporter.” Beyond that, the couple keep their life private.

Our view

Most players who lose a year to injury in their thirties drift out of the national side. Jane came home, took a smaller stage and rebuilt her fitness in a league where she is a reference rather than a squad option. Nigerian fans will remember Casablanca less fondly. With a 2028 Olympic campaign under way and a World Cup play-off still to come, South Africa will lean on her for at least another year, because her calm in the biggest matches is still something Banyana have not found anywhere else.
