Stefanos Tsitsipas has pulled out of the Swiss Indoors in a Tsitsipas Basel withdrawal that raises fresh questions over his right shoulder.
The Greek star withdrew from the ATP 500 event in Switzerland on Sunday 25 October. Its main draw began a day later.
Tsitsipas had been drawn to face American Taylor Fritz, the world No. 12, in the first round. A lucky loser will now take his place in the draw.
Tsitsipas arrived in Switzerland after a strong week at the Almaty Open in Kazakhstan, where he reached the semi-finals.
His campaign there began with an opening win over Aleksandar Kovacevic. He then beat Australian James Duckworth 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
However, he lost his semi-final on Saturday 24 October to Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3.
Towards the end of that match, Tsitsipas appeared to be struggling with discomfort in his right shoulder. That sparked concern ahead of his next events.
Still, there has been no official confirmation that the shoulder problem caused him to pull out.
As a result, it remains unclear whether the discomfort he showed in Almaty is linked to his decision to skip the Swiss tournament.
Next on the 28-year-old’s schedule is the Paris Masters, which runs from 31 October to 8 November. It is one of the biggest events of the late season.
After the Tsitsipas Basel withdrawal, his participation in the French capital is now the key question. The state of his right shoulder is likely to shape his plans for the rest of the year.
His Almaty run produced only his second semi-final of the season and his first on hard courts since February 2025. It followed a quarter-final run in Shanghai.
No reason has yet been given for the Tsitsipas Basel withdrawal.
