Erling Haaland scored once in each half to seal a 3-2 win for Manchester City in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The Norwegian striker was at his clinical best, leading the Cityzens to another win despite Ipswich’s best efforts. Phil Foden gave Man City the lead before Haaland sealed the win either side of halftime. Daizen Maeda briefly equalised, while Zian Fleming netted a late penalty to make Man City work for the win.
Foden collected a Jeremy Doku pass and slotted it into the net in the 19th minute to take the lead. A determined Ipswich pounced on Marc Guehi’s error to equalise two minutes later, with Maeda confidently slotting a low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Haaland scored his first of the afternoon in the 34th minute with a header from Matteo Kovacic’s cross, and made it 3-1 after the hour with a low effort that squeezed it way into the net. Haaland thought he had sealed a second hattrick against Ipswich, but his effort was chalked off by VAR for infringement in the build-up.
Guehi conceded a late penalty after Fleming’s foul, but Enzo Maresca’s side held on to maintain their winning start to the season. The former EPL champions remain top of the league with 21 points, six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal who have played a game less.
In other matches, Alex Iwobi scored the winner to seal Fulham’s first win of the season. The Nigerian international’s first-half strike sealed a first EPL win for under-pressure manager Alvaro Arbeloa.
Alexander Isak netted the winner for Liverpool in their 2-1 comeback win against 10-man Brentford, with Victor Munoz cancelling Keane Lewis-Potter’s opener before Isak netted the winner.
Chelsea also won 2-0 at Everton, with Pedro Neto scoring a brace as Xabi Alonso’s side kept their first clean sheet in 22 EPL matches.
