Fulham went out of the Carabao Cup at Craven Cottage on Wednesday 28 October 2026, beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace through an Eddie Nketiah goal in the 37th minute. Calvin Bassey started in the back four. Nights like that send supporters back to a familiar question about the Super Eagles defender. What does he actually earn? Nobody outside Fulham and his representatives can say.

Calvin Bassey at a glance Detail
Born 31 December 1999, Aosta, Italy; raised in Newham, London
Club Fulham, since July 2023
Reported fee Between 21 million and 22.5 million euros from Ajax, depending on the report
Contract Four years, to 30 June 2027, with a reported club option for one more
Weekly wage (estimates) About 45,000 pounds (Capology data) to 62,000 pounds (SalarySport)
Net worth No credible published figure
Super Eagles 45 caps, as of mid-September 2026

Two estimates, no official number

Fulham do not publish wages, and neither does Bassey. Everything here is an outside estimate. Nothing more.

Afrik-Foot reported on 19 August 2026 that he earns an estimated 45,000 pounds a week, about 2.34 million pounds a year before bonuses. That came from Capology's Fulham data. The outlet noted it is not official. On that basis he is 15th on the wage list, well behind Alex Iwobi at around 80,000 pounds a week.

SalarySport goes higher. It shows 62,000 pounds a week, or 3,224,000 pounds a year, and does not explain its method.

The two figures sit 17,000 pounds a week apart. Neither is a fact.

Treat both with care.

A fair reading is that a Premier League regular of his profile earns in a seven-figure annual bracket, and honest reporting stops there. We have left out naira equivalents because a conversion would only add false precision to a guess.

Contract, fee and the road to 2027

Bassey joined Fulham from Ajax on 28 July 2023.

It was a four-year deal. Afrik-Foot gave the fee as 22.5 million euros, while Wikipedia carries 21 million, so call it reported rather than confirmed.

Afrik-Foot wrote on 23 October 2026 that the deal runs to 30 June 2027. Fulham can extend it by a year, an option an earlier piece of 29 August put at June 2028. The same outlet named Inter Milan, Fenerbahce and Brighton. Free agent next summer? Possibly. It presented them as speculation, and so do we. It also reported that Fulham are keen to offer a longer contract. From January he is free to talk to foreign clubs, which means the winter window and any offer Fulham put on the table before then will shape where he plays.

Net worth: why we will not guess

Net worth is harder still. We found no reliable published figure for Bassey. Biography sites that print a round figure rarely show their working, and we have not repeated them.

The only number with any method behind it is SalarySport's estimate of career wage earnings, about 10.3 million pounds. That counts salary alone, before tax, agent fees, image rights and endorsements, so it is not a net worth. The gap is wide. Anyone quoting a precise fortune for a player on an undisclosed deal is guessing, and readers deserve better than a round number dressed up as research and copied from site to site.

Family and background

Bassey, 26, was born in Aosta to Nigerian parents and grew up in Newham. He joined Leicester City's youth system at 15. Rangers came next, and there he won the Scottish Premiership in 2020-21 and the Scottish Cup in 2021-22. He also reached the 2022 Europa League final.

He has spoken about his mother. Ahead of his first Nigeria call-up in October 2021 he said: “My mother played a huge role in making me decide on playing for Nigeria.” He added that it had been her dream.

Beyond that, he keeps his private life out of the headlines, and we have not gone looking for more.

He has said little else.

Where he stands with the Eagles

He made his Nigeria debut on 25 March 2022 in a goalless World Cup qualifier against Ghana. He was in the side beaten 2-1 by Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. At the 2025 tournament in Morocco, Nigeria finished third after beating Egypt on penalties. He made CAF's Best XI.

His Fulham season has been uneven. He was the club's Player of the Season in 2024-25, then found himself on the bench after returning from the Nations Cup. Vanguard reported in February that Marco Silva put it down to competition: “It's competition, and Cuenca knows the pro he's up against.”

That matters for Nigeria, because a defender comfortable at left-back or in the centre is hard to replace, which is why his contract is watched so closely. Our guide to Nigerian players in the Premier League tracks where he stands this season, and our profile of Moses Simon shows how another Eagle's earnings are reported.
